With this spectacular composition, in which a circus conductor carefully observes a female tightrope walker during her act, Botero delves into the memories of his childhood, while at the same time exploring a topic inaugurated by great Masters of the History of Art, such as Picasso, Calder and Seurat.
In 2006 Master Botero created a series of works denouncing the torture of Arab prisoners by American soldiers. A couple of months later, as if it were a revelation that would return him to life and color, Botero found in Mexico a modest travelling circus, a show that reminded of his childhood: the expected arrival of the poorest circuses to Medellín, with their starving animals, acrobats, clowns and jugglers who lived in caravans. The exhibition of this series, to which this wonderful tightrope walker belongs, would travel around the world.
