A couple takes a break in front of a landscape and seizes the opportunity to make a picnic on the grass. Inevitably the scene, although very Colombian in its characters and its Andean mountain chain, reminds us of one of the most famous pieces in the History of Art: Édouard Manet’s Déjeuner sur l’Herbe.
Apart from the reference of the picnic, there is nothing that suggests a tribute to the French painter, but Botero uses these symbolic and powerful images to connect the memories of his childhood to the many paintings that conform the History of Art.
